On Tuesday, a coalition of restaurants banded together to participate in #TheGreatAmericanTakeout. These restaurants urged consumers to order at least one takeout or delivery meal to show support for the restaurant community.

“Because dine-in meals are no longer being served at most restaurants, delivery and pick-up are the only ways to support these struggling businesses,” the coalition said in a statement.

The chains included California Pizza Kitchen, Chevys Fresh Mex, El Torito, The Habit Restaurants Inc., Jason’s Deli, Lemonade, Modern Market, Noodles & Company, Panera Bread and Veggie Grill, while various independent restaurants participated across the country.

Did consumers participate in #TheGreatAmericanTakeout? Why yes, they did.

Basketball legend LeBron James, who owns about 10% of Blaze Pizza, retweeted the chain’s plea to customers to support #TheGreatAmericanTakeout:

That post alone undoubtedly boosted the profile of the event, as James has more than 45 million Twitter followers.

#TheGreatAmericanTakeout was one of the trending topics on Twitter with over 10,000 mentions at one point.
