The French bakery chain Maison Kayser is reportedly looking to exit leases in New York City.

The 16-unit chain has been closed across Manhattan since March, when the pandemic shutdown began. Landlords say the company has a plan to exit all leases across the city, according to the Commercial Observer.

Officials with Maison Kayser did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Founded by Eric Kayser in Paris in 1996, the concept is an artisanal French boulangerie specializing in bread and pastries. The chain includes more than 100 shops in 20 countries.

The first U.S. unit opened in New York in 2012. The U.S. units include a sit-down café with an all-day menu of French classics, from Niçoise salad to brioche sandwiches and open-faced tartines.
