Wayfair Inc., the online home furnishings retailer, plans to open The Porch restaurant when its first brick-and-mortar location debuts May 23 in Wilmette, Ill,, the company said this week.

A spokesperson for the Boston-based Wayfair said The Porch will include 70 seats inside and a patio for 20 more. The restaurant will be in the Edens Plaza shopping area, occupying a former Carson Pirie Scott location, she said.

IKEA, the Swedish home goods retailer, has long offered foodservice at its locations, generating a reported $2.5 billion annually in sales, and Macy’s and Restoration Hardware have expanded their restaurant offerings.

The Wayfair physical store will have its grand opening at 10 a.m. CDT in a 150,000-square-foot location that will also feature furniture, home decor, housewares and home improvement products, the company said.
