The new Truck Yard venue in The Colony, Texas, just north of Dallas, has created a one-of-a-kind private events space with the installation of the Toilet Seat Art Museum.

The Truck Yard, first created in 2013 by Jason Boso, who also owns the 16-unit Twisted Root Burger brand, has expanded to Houston. The third venue has the added panache of the museum, which Boso bought from creator Barney Smith, who died in July shortly after his 98th birthday.

The Colony version, which opened in late July, includes three bars, areas for lounging, playing games and playing games and a variety of rotating food trucks to sell their menus.

“We have already paid ourselves back on the PR we have received on this crazy roadside attraction,” Boso said in an email.

The Toilet Seat Art Museum is an enclosed, air-conditioned space that covers about 2,500 square feet and has an additional 1,500 square feet on a patio that overlooks the yard.

“It accommodates 100 people seated or a cocktail party for 150-250 people,” Boso said. “We plan on using it for a variety of things, including birthday parties, corporate events, baby showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners, you name it.  The possibilities are endless.”

In its first month, the museum space has been reserved for for birthday parties and reunions, he said.

“This is a really great amenity for Truck Yard and we’ve had so many party requests that we can’t accommodate in our busy yard so now we have a place to say ‘yes’ to all of those requests,” Boso said.

Barney Smith, who died in July, attended a preview of the Toilet Seat Art Museum in June. He amassed a collection of 1,400 decorated toilet seats.

The Truck Yard location also features 28 vintage, rusted cars sticking vertically out of the ground.

A representative for the Truck Yard said the venue plans to expand with a tiki bar, karaoke lounge and on-site brewery.
