It’s been said golf is a good walk spoiled. Been there, done that. Sometimes the best part is the cold beer(s) and stale hot dog after the round. Imagine coming off the 18th green and enjoying a sangria and Cubano croissant from José Andrés? That would be reason enough to wake up for a 7:15 tee time.
Starting Friday, it’s possible at the Dorado Beach Resort and Club in Puerto Rico, with what Think Food Group calls the first ever golf course food truck. Andres, who already serves up his innovative fare at Mi Casa at the 1,400-acre Caribbean resort with 72 holes of championship golf, is teaming with the club and chef José Shamil Cedeño for this new 19th hole experience.
The Food Truck by José Andrés will not rove the course, but instead offer the chef’s innovative version of classics like the burger, hot dog, BLT and Cubano, as well as unexpected options like lobster roll, gazpacho, fried oysters and seafood cocktail for golfers after their round. It will also serve as a roving catering venue for residents throughout the golf community, and future plans include an enhanced food cart bringing the menu and cocktail creations to golfers on the courses.
“Today’s golfers have come to expect innovative and elevated dining experiences and the golf course should be no exception,” says Andrés, an avid golfer himself. “The days of a peanut butter cracker, bag of chips or pretzels or simple tuna sandwich are over. Golfers want and deserve more. Eating has to be fun, especially in the golf course.”
