Last week we unveiled the six Best Sandwiches in America for 2021. Each sandwich represented certain trends we noticed among those submitted.

Knowing that the only thing better than a winning sandwich is more delicious sandwiches, we have pulled more examples of trend-spotting sandwiches from the close to 200 submissions this year.

We saw a number of sandwiches that were variations on Indian street food, for example. We also saw a sandwiches topping meat with more meat — though mushrooms were also a popular option in place of meat.

There is clearly demand for dip-able sandwiches in the style of a French Dip. And, to no one’s surprise, there were lots and lots of great chicken sandwiches (we’ve selected just a few).

The goal here is to inspire and showcase the innovation in sandwich making among independent restaurants across the country.

Here are more standout sandwiches from independent restaurants across the country.
