The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday warned restaurant operators not to eat, serve or sell Gravel Ridge Farms cage-free large eggs, which have been implicated in a multi-state Salmonella outbreak.

Fourteen people have been sickened in Alabama and Tennessee and two people have been hospitalized in the outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis, which occurred from July 10 through Aug. 7. No deaths have been reported, the CDC said.

On Sept. 8, Gravel Ridge Farms recalled cage-free eggs because of contamination fears. The eggs were sold in grocery stores and also to restaurants in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

The recalled eggs have “best if used by” dates of July 25 through Oct. 3. Packages have the UPC code 7-06970-38444-6. The eggs can be returned for a refund, or thrown out. The CDC recommends washing and sanitizing drawers or shelves where the eggs may have been stored.
