This week, the government took action to aid those who have personal or professional hardships because of the coronavirus.

Late last night, the Senate passed a $2 trillion stimulus package aimed to help Americans and small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic. The bill includes cash payments to Americans making below a certain income threshold as well as $500 billion to larger businesses to back loans and $350 billion for small businesses.

The bill will go to the House for a vote on Friday where it is expected to pass.

In response to the decrease in traffic among consumers, and to soften the financial outcome on smaller restaurants, restaurateurs urged consumers to participate in #TheGreatAmericanTakeout on March 24. The movement requested that at least one meal on March 24 be either carryout or delivery from a restaurant to support the struggling industry.

The result showed. Restaurant traffic was up that day–but only for a day.

Some restaurants suffered immense troubles before the movement, not making it far enough to participate. First, Union Square Hospitality Group laid off 80% of its workers and last week, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants closed all restaurants and furloughed 4,500 workers.
