Flavor of the Week: No longer just once a year, it’s Birthday Cake

Gone are the days when you’d enjoy the unique flavor of birthday cake once a year — today, you can experience it in myriad products including coffee creamer, vodka, popcorn and vape.

There are as many versions of “birthday cake” or “cake batter” flavored products as there are products themselves, but the combination is generally packed with vanilla and other sweet flavors to exude the essence of classic vanilla cake, paired with an equally sweet aroma.

This flavor also harkens back to childhood and adds an additional nostalgic pull.

Market research firm Datassential reports that 96% of the population knows about birthday cake and 90% have tried it, yet it’s only found on 2.1% of U.S. restaurant menus.
