What do you consider the best way to discourage no-shows?

Taking Credit Card info and charging a fair amount for no show will discourage people from making reservations and not showing up. Also, they will have the obligation to cancel the reservations if for any reason they cannot keep it; but in case of an emergency, if the customer calls and explains the situation after the fact, they should be refunded.
