Union Square Events, the catering arm of New York-based Union Square Hospitality Group, on Monday announced a minority investment by Compass Group USA.

“Compass Group USA and Union Square Events are mutually pleased to announce our new partnership optimizing our collective food and hospitality expertise,” the two companies said in a statement. “With aligned organizational values and a shared belief that success starts with great people, we look forward to leveraging the scale of Compass and the culture of USHG to deliver compelling experiences for our clients and guests.”

Union Square Events offers catering services, as well as foodservice contracts for business and industry, corporate cafes, sports venues and cultural institutions. Founder Danny Meyer said recently the events company is the largest of the growing family of businesses affiliated with Union Square Hospitality Group.

Union Square Events’ dedicated event spaces include the new Bay Room in New York’s financial district, with panoramic views of Manhattan, for example, as well as The Shed, a new performing arts center next to Hudson Yards, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Based in Charlotte, N.C., Compass is the nation’s largest foodservice contractor with more than $18.6 billion in revenue in fiscal 2018, a 9.1% increase over the prior year.

Compass also has partnerships with other leading restaurant-and-catering operations in the U.S., including Wolfgang Puck Catering and Restaurant Associates.
