Some terms describing menu choices have been so co-opted that they are virtually meaningless. What does “authentic” mean, really? Natural? Local? Huffington Post contributor Carey Polis rounded up 10 of the most common food terms that have become diluted from overuse.

If your menu includes these kinds of descriptors, you might think about updating them using terms that actually resonate with your guests. In any event, you would be wise to avoid the term “natural,” since a variety of lawsuits have surfaced challenging claims that foods are natural.
