Michelin-award winner Jean-Georges Vongerichten announced Tuesday he would be opening a new marketplace in the Seaport neighborhood of New York City. The Tin Building is set to open in Spring 2022, will cover 53,000 square feet and will host six casual- or fine-dining restaurants, six fast-casual eateries and a smattering of bars.

“When I came to New York City for the first time in 1985, a trip that launched my career, I went straight to the Fulton Fish Market on my second day and immersed myself in the market’s thriving activity in the heart of downtown Manhattan,” Vongerichten said in a statement. “This project is a valued opportunity for me to recreate such a meaningful experience of discovery —incorporating favorite dishes that are global in scope and locally sourced, specially curated for a one-of-a-kind Seaport journey.”

The Tin Building will also feature retail.

Casual and fine-dining restaurants will include:

  • Shikku, an intimate Japanese sushi and sake restaurant, which transforms into a late-night Izakaya;

  • The House of the Red Pearl, serving Chinese-inspired dishes;

  • T. Brasserie, a French concept celebrating the country’s fare;

  • The Frenchman’s Dough, where freshly made pizzas and pastas will be served daily;

  • Seeds & Weeds, a sustainable and artisanal plant-based eatery that will use the fresh ingredients of the day; and

  • The Fulton Seafood Co, a seafood dining counter and restaurant with a full raw bar.

Fast-casual outposts will include:

  • Taquito, a Mexican taqueria with signature dishes and made-to-order tacos;

  • Double Yolk, a breakfast concept;

  • T Café and Bakery;

  • Crêpes & Dosas, serving sweet and savory options;

  • Spoiled Parrot, a showcase of candies and confections with a focus on local purveyors, private label chocolates and more; and

  • Salad and Sandwich: Freshly made sandwiches and salads utilizing rotisserie and locally sourced sliced meats, cheeses and produce.

There will also be a marketplace called Central Market with sustainably and locally sourced meats, cheeses, seafood and grocery items.

The project is in collaboration with real-estate development company The Howard Hughes Corporation.

“We are looking forward to sharing an experience that will differentiate the Tin Building from all other culinary experiences in NYC and will be a must-visit travel destination for New Yorkers and visitors alike,” said Saul Scherl, president of the New York Tri-State region for The Howard Hughes Corporation, in a statement. “The unprecedented combination of culinary options, historic location and incredible design is unrivaled in the food and beverage and tourism space.”

According to the company, the project will create 700 new jobs for the neighborhood.
