Shoestring fries are appearing on more menus because they’re adaptable and provide nostalgia for consumers, who either remember grabbing some thin and crispy fries with a burger as they rose in popularity in the 1950s and ’60s, or more likely pine for bygone days that they never actually knew.

They’re also faster to cook than thicker fries, making for quicker orders, and they’re usually crispier, too — a quality generally enjoyed by consumers.

Regardless of the reasons that customers have taken to shoestring fries, they’re equally enjoyed across demographic groups, with 63% of all consumers saying they like or love them.

Market research firm Datassential reports that 83% of the population knows about shoestring fries and 74% have tried them, with awareness the greatest amongst Boomers and Gen X consumers.
