Winner: B.L.A.T.T.

Restaurant: Urban Steam, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Units: 1

Creator: Kelly Bubach, CEO and general manager

Price: $11

Food cost: $2.75

Ingredients: Avocado, applewood smoked bacon, hickory smoked turkey, horseradish aioli, butter lettuce, vine tomatoes and thickly cut, toasted sourdough.

What makes it special: The sandwich came about when Bubach wanted to add some punch, protein and heat to the classic BLT. The smoked turkey, plus bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and creamy horseradish aioli create a compelling flavor combination that customers love. “I’ve been told many times that ‘it’s the best BLT I’ve ever had,’” Bubach said.

What others are saying: Matthew Schniper of the Colorado Springs Independent writes: ”’Meticulous’ is the word that always comes to mind when dining and drinking at Urban Steam. Owner Kelly Bubach always gives a detailed answer as to why he’s using a certain product, or why I should pair my fundamentally simple and satisfying B.L.A.T.T. with a medium-dark-roasted, stout Yemeni pourover — ... [the B.L.A.T.T. sandwiches stand] up well to [eating], even when they contain big, biting notes from horseradish aioli.”
