Winner: Beef N’ Latkes

Restaurant: Sherman’s Deli & Bakery, Palm Springs, Calif.

Units: 2

Creator: Chef Gordon Poster

Price: $16.95

Food cost:  $4.24

Ingredients: Latkes (potato pancakes) and fresh-roasted brisket of beef, thinly sliced and served sandwich style with creamy horseradish, applesauce and sour cream.

What makes it special: Crispy fried latkes the size of your hand and hot sliced juicy brisket of beef. Guests also have the option of ordering pastrami, corned beef or the house-made turkey pastrami instead of brisket between their latkes.

What others are saying: This sandwich has been a top seller for more than 20 years and was featured earlier this year on “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.” TripAdvisor reviewer Djbls from Orlando, Fla., said, “The Beef n’ Latkes sandwich is to die for — corned beef or pastrami made into a sandwich with two latkes in place of bread. OMG. Never tasted anything like it.”
