2016 Best Cocktails in America: Dr. No

Not only has America’s love for cocktails grown tremendously in recent years, so has the skill of those who prepare them. Restaurant Hospitality’s editorial staff selected 14 top cocktails prepared by mixologists around the country. See all winners >>

Category: Gin

Restaurant: Salt House, San Francisco

Creator: Gabe Cothes

Inspiration: “For a sea-to-table dinner, I was asked to create a cocktail that would reflect flavors and elements unique to the Pacific Ocean. I likened the freshness of cucumber and crispness of Hendrick’s to the fresh spray from a crashing wave, and the rest fell into place.”

Key Ingredients: Hendrick’s Gin, yuzu, amontillado sherry, cucumber, furikake rim and nori strip garnish

Price: $13

What the Judges Said: The Dr. No is named after the supervillain that James Bond faced in his first movie, and it fits: sophisticated, exotic and with just a bit of mischief (from the seaweed). There is one problem with the name, however: Dr. No was unbalanced, and this cocktail definitely isn’t.
